What is a SoulMate?
Thank you to Skye Thomas & Books on the Hidden Mysteries…
Many theories exist as to what is a soulmate. The original roots of the concept go back to a belief in reincarnation. A soulmate is someone that you have encountered in many different life times and have loved many times. That’s why the first time you meet them in this lifetime you feel as if you have known them forever before you even knew their name. There is a mystical deja vu energy right from the start. Can you have more then one soulmate during your lifetime? Originally, the answer was no. As the definition of the word soulmate has changed, so has that answer. People’s religious and spiritual beliefs deeply affects how they view the concept of soulmates.
First let me give a very basic explanation of reincarnation so that within that context the various theories as to what a soulmate is and how many you can have in one lifetime will make more sense. The core belief regarding reincarnation is that the creator castes the souls down onto the planet to live out a number of lifetimes until a bunch of predetermined lessons have been learned. Once those souls have finished learning all of their lessons, then they no longer have to come back as humans and can move on to another level where they become guardian angels or spirit guides over those who are still living out their life lessons. There are as many different variations on this concept as there are religions.
There has been a lot of research done to try and better understand the whole concept of past lives. You can find thousands of stories of people who have never met that remember the exact same lifetime together. There are stories of people who under hypnosis are able to recite details about a past life that are later researched and proven to be accurate. The research is still going on and nobody has proven for sure that we do or do not live more than once. However, there are enough fascinating case studies to warrant further study and debate.
It was originally believed that soulmates are created when the creator takes a soul and splits it into two as it is caste into human form. Each half is supposed to learn the life lessons at their own pace. When the two halves sometimes cross paths during various lifetimes, they have a cosmic powerful bond because they really are of the same soul. They complete each other. They are often very much alike, and the intensity of the connection is too much for a mere human with emotions and issues to handle, so they painfully end up parting ways. When they both finish their lessons, they are both reunited in heaven and come together as a beautiful representation of love and unity. This is also known as your twin flame. Only one person is the other half of your soul.
Another belief within the reincarnation teachings is that we spend numerous lifetimes with the same group of souls so that we can learn through karma. In one lifetime someone might be your spouse and in the next they might be your twin brother and in the next they might be your worst enemy and so on. The idea is that through all of these lifetimes together you learn cause and effect, an eye for an eye, that what comes around goes around. You may have abandoned your sick mother in one life and in the next life she’s your husband and then abandons you. Now the karma string is cut and you can move on through your other lessons without owing that debt anymore. These karma-mates feel very familiar and intense when you first meet them. It feels like you have some predestined life goal together. You can have many different karma-mates in one life. You can definitely love a karma-mate in numerous lifetimes and to some extent it can be easier then loving a soulmate.
Loving a soulmate or twin flame is often difficult because we are not usually able to love and accept ourselves, so why would we be able to love the other half of our own soul? It is somewhat easier to love a karma-mate because they are not as intense, they usually have a karmic reason for showing up in our lives, and we have agreed to meet and fall in love with them in order to work together on a project. Karma-mates can be easier to love and easier to hate. Soulmates can be deeply psychically connected with amazing love at first sight stories that end in magical happily ever after scenarios. Unfortunately, we are not usually evolved enough to handle something so intense as another person sharing our deepest soul level. Older souls that have many lifetimes of lessons and enlightenment under their belts have an easier time accepting such a deep connection with another person.
Today, people use the word soulmate to mean anyone that you fall madly in love with and feel the heavens have blessed your relationship. There are people claiming that more and more soulmates are being brought together during this time in history so that they can unite their forces to bring healing and loving energy back to this planet. Since nobody can prove or disprove any of this, who’s to say that all of the great loves in your life weren’t all soulmates? It used to mean a very rare and cosmic match that shares your same soul. All love is sacred and holy no matter what you believe about reincarnation and soulmates. We are better off not trying to force it into any one definition or to create a bunch of dogmatic rules around who does or does not get to call their beloved by the name of soulmate. Beautiful love stories will always exist with or without reincarnation being proven true or false. Love at first sight will always exist. Love will always be a mysterious magical unknown that nobody can fully explain….
More in depth in classical definition:
“Plato wrote in his Symposium that humans have been looking for their soul mate ever since Zeus cut them in half. In his mythic story, Plato describes a world where there were men, women and people who were both men and women. Apparently, humans began discussing how they could climb up to heaven and replace the gods. The gods were upset by this and discussed what should be done. The simplest solution would be to destroy mankind, but Zeus came up with a better idea. He suggested cutting all human beings in half. This would serve two purposes. First, it would immediately double the number of people making offerings to the gods. Second, it would weaken the humans, so they would not be able to carry out their plan. Zeus’ idea was accepted, and the humans were all divided into two. Naturally, the humans were upset at this, and Zeus decided to enable each half to have intercourse with their opposite, symbolically creating a whole. Consequently, the males sought their female half, and the females sought their male half, allowing them to reproduce.
New Age concept of soulmate:
There is a prevalent concept in some segments of the New Age movement that some souls are literally made and/or fated to be the mates of each other, or to play certain other important roles in each others’ lives. These souls are thought to have created something in a past life and they have chosen this lifetime to help each other “heal.” Following this concept, one can have many soulmates. For example: One could see another person they have never met in this lifetime and instantly hate or love them because of previous interaction(s) with the other in one or more previous lifetimes. The most popular use of this concept is in applying it to those who were loved intimately in other lifetimes which were then found in this one. Also, being conscious of the “soul mate connection” is not necessary, according to this idea.
Soulmate emotional theory:
Ultimately the consequence of this notion is the unfortunate reality that soulmates often possess the ability to inflict serious emotional injury unto their twin flame, greater than any other being could. This often results in the separation of idealized love, due to the severe emotional impact. Many soulmates are destined for an eternal search, not for lack of meeting, but rather lack of acceptance. The encounter is often analogous to the collision of matter and antimatter, a violent explosive reaction will occur, but if held through to completion only pure energy, and thus harmony, will result. A soulmate can also be a person who is not of the gender they are naturally attracted to or compatible with as a conventional romantic couple.
Legend:
Like the biblical story virtually all the ancient myths reference creation as involving the split of polarities from an original state of unity. The Chinese story of P`an-Ku, separating the unity of yin and yang principles. The Egyptian Atum myth where the air God Shu separates Geb and Nut from their initial love embrace. The Sumerian story of creation and the uncoupling of the god An and goddess Ki from their commingled state. The Akaddian story of Marduck splitting the goddess Tiamat. The New Zealand Maori story of creation and separation of Rangi and Pappa. Aristophanes in the Symposium references how the Greek God Zeus cut the souls of humankind in half. “Man’s original body having been cut in two, each half yearned for the half that had been severed…..Love is simply the name of for the desire and pursuit of the whole. Plato in the Symposium: “The original human nature was not as they are now, but originally three in number; there was man, woman, and the union of the two.” (Third Gender)

MySpace shrinks as Facebook, Twitter and Bebo grab its users
Staff quit social networking’s former darling, now half the size of Facebook
Thank you to David Smith for this story…
The “Place for Friends” is starting to feel lonely. MySpace, the Rupert Murdoch-owned website once synonymous with social networking, is losing popularity and key staff in its biggest troubles since launching five years ago.
Latest figures show that Murdoch is being beaten in the fight for social networks. MySpace suffered a drop in visitor traffic last month and is now less than half the size of its younger rival, Facebook. Three executives recently quit the one-time darling of the internet and there is speculation its co-founders will follow.
MySpace’s loss of status as the cool place to be is an object lesson in the notoriously fickle internet, where today’s cultural icon is tomorrow’s passing fad. From humble origins in 2003, the site led the so-called “Web 2.0″ revolution in which users could create their own profile pages and share content with friends. Murdoch’s purchase of MySpace for $580m was seen as a masterstroke as membership continued to soar, with celebrities and politicians joining the craze.
But then came Facebook, founded by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg, which soon snowballed with an older and apparently more affluent demographic to steal MySpace’s crown. Gradually newspaper coverage of social networks switched from references to “MySpace and Facebook” to “Facebook and MySpace”. The rise of Bebo also undermined MySpace’s dominance, while Twitter is among the latest novelties eating into users’ attention spans.
MySpace had 124 million monthly unique visitors last month, a decline of 2%, according to the marketing research company comScore. Facebook, by contrast, racked up 276 million unique visitors, an increase of 16.6%.
Michael Arrington, co-editor of the influential industry blog TechCrunch, posted: “What was a bad situation in November 2008 is starting to turn outright ugly - Facebook is now well over twice the size of MySpace … It was less than a year ago that MySpace and Facebook were the same size.”
There are clues behind the scenes that all is not well at Murdoch’s Fox Interactive Media, which runs the site.
Amit Kapur, MySpace’s chief operating officer, resigned after little more than a year in the post to set up a new company. He will be joined by Jim Benedetto and Steve Pearman, senior vice-presidents of engineering and product strategy.
The exodus comes amid speculation of further departures and rumours that MySpace’s co-founders, Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson, could also walk away in October after the end of their contracts, each worth $30m over two years.
MySpace is clinging on to a marginal lead over Facebook in America but trails badly in Europe. In Britain, Facebook overtook its competitor in September 2007, the comScore data shows.
Nick Thomas, an analyst at Forrester Research, said: “In the last 12 months Facebook has extended its dominance in every territory in Europe.” However, he added: “I’m not convinced that it’s terminal for MySpace. The battle isn’t over yet.”

Interesting Stuff
Recently I was surfing the web and came across some interesting yet ”useless information”. I thought I would share some of here. I’m sure you will never use it. However, if you are ever on Jeopardy…..well you know who to thank :)
*~* DO YOU FEEL LIKE AN ASS??? When a female horse and a male donkey mate, the offspring is called a mule, but when a male horse and a female donkey mate, the offspring is called a hinny. When a male zebra and a female donkey mate the offspring is called a ‘zedonk’ or ‘zebrass’. All of these resulting offspring are sterile (can’t have babies).
*~* EASIEST WAY TO CURB YOUR URGE FOR CHOCOLATE: Did you know that the average chocolate bar in the U.S. contains at least 8 pieces of an insect in it? Harvesting of the cacao beans occurs in the tropical countries of South America with low sanitation levels. Cacao tree beans are cut and piled in the farmer’s field where they ferment for 6 days. During this process, children and adults walk over the piles; insects, rodents, small animals and other living things that make their nests in the piles. Actually the The U. S. Department of Health publishes a book entitled “The Food Defect Action Levels” in which they list unavoidable defects in food (insect, rodents etc.) all allowed by FDA.
*~* POOR BIRDIES: It is believed that in a small town in North Eastern part of India (Jatinga) birds commit suicide in a particular 1.5 km long and around 200 meters wide strip of field area. These birds are not suicidal since their behavior may be attributed to heavy rains and floods and submergence of their natural habitat in the surrounding areas. Also the local villagers light torches which attract the birds migrating at night. They then clobber them to death with bamboo poles and eat them!
*~* HOW STRONG IS YOUR BLADDER??? If you ever swim in the Amazon and Oranoco Rivers of South America please think twice before urinating in the water. Fish called Candiru or Carnero is attracted by urine smell (urea and ammonia) and it can insert it self into the penis or vagina while urinating. Then penis fish lodges itself somewhere in the urinary tract with its spines and it uses its mouth for feeding by sucking the blood. It is almost impossible for fish to survive inside of the human body. Removal of the fish is extremely hard due to the spines and if problem is not treated it can result in removal of the genitals.
*~* LION + TIGER=LIGER: What happens when a male lion and a female tiger breed? A Liger - the largest of all felines. A liger looks like a giant lion with diffused stripes and some male ligers grow sparse manes. These massive creatures are 10 feet long on average and weigh about 700 lb (320kg). Liger love swimming - trait common to tigers but lacking in lions. Ligers have been bred in captivity, deliberately and accidentally, since shortly before World War II. The largest liger alive today is appropriately named Hercules and lives in Jungle Island in Miami.
*~* ELEPHANT FACTS: Elephants are well known for their intelligence and caring for each other. Elephants cry and laugh and they are largest animals that live on land. Elephants live long, between 60-70 years. Elephant’s musk has more than 100,000 muscle units and elephant poops around 80 pounds a day. It is known that elephants take a great care over dead bones of their family members. However, it is the myth that they carry them to secret “elephant burial grounds”. Interesting elephant fact is that periodically male elephants go through musth or extremely aggressive sexual behavior. Musth in Persian means “intoxicated” and it is recorded that male elephant in musth has 60 times higher level of testosterone than in the normal elephant. Elephant male in the musth will kill and destroy everything in his path. Take a look at this shocking vicious video to learn more about this highly aggressive elephant behavior.
