Old Dailt woman accused of witchcraft stripped and beaten
Wadegaon (Maharashtra), May 24 (ANI): In an unusual event in Wadegaon village of Maharashtra, a seventy year-old Dalit woman, Ruddha, was accused of practicing witchcraft. She was stripped and beaten by the villagers before being paraded astride a donkey.
The locals claimed that she was doing sorcery on one of the neighbours with lemons.
However, Ruddha denied the charges and claimed that she was being harassed. “They beat me. Ladies beat me. Men folk beat me. They dragged me out of my home onto the streets and thrashed me for nothing,” said Ruddha.
She further said that the villagers tore her blouse and even robbed her of Rs.2000.
Police have detained 11 persons including four women for further investigation.
“Further investigation and necessary legal proceedings will be followed,” said N Z Kumbhare, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Akola.
He also mentioned that on learning about this incident, the police personnel rushed to the village and saved Ruddha from further humiliation. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Worshipping the Divine in Nature - Thank You NY Times

I often come across archived articles that I find interesting. This one I felt deserved to be shared:
Wiccans Keep the Faith With a Religion Under Wraps
By NEELA BANERJEE
DUMFRIES, Va. — Above the woman’s fireplace hangs her wedding picture, taken in a Lutheran church years ago. Below it, on the mantelpiece, is a small Wiccan altar: two candles, a tiny cauldron, four stones to represent the elements of nature and a small amethyst representing her spirit.
The wedding portrait is always there. But whenever someone comes to visit, the woman sweeps the altar away. Raised Southern Baptist in Virginia and now a stay-at-home mother of two in this Washington suburb, she has told almost no one — not her relatives, her friends or the other mothers in her children’s playgroups — that she is Wiccan.
Among the most popular religions to have flowered since the 1960s, Wicca — a form of paganism — still faces a struggle for acceptance, experts on the religion and Wiccans themselves said. In April, Wiccans won an important victory when the Department of Veterans Affairs settled a lawsuit and agreed to add the Wiccan pentacle to a list of approved religious symbols that it will engrave on veterans’ headstones.
But Wicca in the civilian world is largely a religion in hiding. Wiccans fear losing their friends and jobs if people find out about their faith.
“I would love to be able to say ‘Accept us for who we are,’ but I can’t, mainly because of my kids,” said the suburban mother, who agreed to talk only on the condition of anonymity. “Children can be cruel, and their parents can be even more cruel, and I don’t want my kids picked on for the choice their mommy made.”
She worries that because most people know little about Wicca, they will assume she worships Satan. She fears that her family and friends will abandon her and that the community will ostracize her.
David Steinmetz, professor of the history of Christianity at Duke Divinity School, said, “Wiccans have so many things stacked against them, from what the Bible says about the practice of magic to the history in this country of witch trials, that the image of them adds up to something so contrary to the consensus about genuine religion that still shapes American society.”
Wiccans worship the divine in nature. Some practice it privately in their homes, and others worship with large congregations. Most people do not grow up Wiccan but come to it from another religion.
“It’s a very open religion,” said Helen A. Berger, a sociology professor at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. “Each person can do what they want, and they don’t have to belong to a group. They take things from a number of different sources, like Eastern religions, Celtic practices. You are the ultimate authority of your own experience.”
But its symbols and practices elicit suspicion from outsiders, Wiccans and religion scholars say.
Many Wiccans practice some form of magic or witchcraft, which they say is a way of affecting one’s destiny, but which many outsiders see as evil. The Wiccan pentacle, a five-pointed star inside a circle, is often confused with symbols of Satanism. (The five points of the star represent the elements of nature — earth, air, fire and water — and the spirit, within the eternal circle of life.)
It is unclear how many Wiccans and other pagans there are. The 2001 American Religious Identification Survey by the City University of New York found that Wicca was the country’s fastest-growing religion, with 134,000 adherents, compared with 8,000 in 1990. The actual number may be greater, Ms. Berger said. Some people may have been unwilling to identify themselves as pagan or Wiccan for the survey. Others combine paganism with other religions.
Wiccans face less backlash now than in the past. The Internet provides information about Wicca, and the popularity of the Harry Potter novels has made magic seem a force for good, scholars and Wiccans say.
David and Jeanet Ewing, coordinators of two pagan groups in the Washington area, estimate that at least 1,000 Wiccans and other pagans live in Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. At least half actively hide their faith from their relatives, Ms. Ewing said. Many also hide their faith from their employers, Mr. Ewing said.
One such person is a 58-year-old former Roman Catholic who has been an auditor for 30 years in what he calls “one of the most buttoned-down departments in one of the most sacrosanct agencies” of the federal government.
“I put on this Joe Taxpayer suit, and it’s like living two lives,” he said. “A minority would have a problem with me, but it would be a big problem. They would assume we are doing weird things, illegal, immoral things, at all hours. They wouldn’t want to really know what we do, but they would go with their presuppositions instead.”
The auditor said that by “coming out of the broom closet,” he risked ostracism at work and perhaps being pushed into early retirement, which would affect his pension. “I don’t even want to contemplate it,” he said.
A New York marketing executive finds the city so secular that being passionate about religion is often met with a smirk, and it would be worse if people knew he was Wiccan, he said. “In my personal and private life, I like to be taken seriously,” he said. “Pagans are associated with the ’70s and hippies and counterculture. New York is a Type A city, and it’s all about getting ahead, and the kooky ones don’t get ahead.”
Members of other religions, including Jews and Catholics, have sometimes been forced to mask their faith in the past because of religious bias, Professor Steinmetz said. But it is rare, he added, for people to keep their religion from parents and grandparents, as many Wiccans do.
The Virginia mother has not told her mother or grandmother that she is a Wiccan. “I have a deep-seated fear that they will say, ‘I can’t be a part of this, you’re raising your kids as evil,’ ” she said.
She attends classes about Wicca on Friday nights, and she has yet to caution her older child, a preschooler, not to tell anyone about them.
“My son says, ‘Yeah, Mommy’s going to witch school,’ ” she said. “I’m just waiting for the day he says that in front of a teacher.”

Finding Your Inner Voice
When most people think of a psychic, they probably imagine an exotic-looking woman peering into a crystal ball. She wears giant hoop earrings and a long, flowing dress. In a mysterious foreign accent, she reveals what she sees in your future—usually for a steep fee.Yet, you can be your own psychic, by developing your own natural power to see the future. The word, “clairvoyance,” means “clear seeing.” In other words, a clairvoyant clearly sees the truth about the past, present, and future. You’ve probably experienced clairvoyance yourself, and may not have even known it. Common clairvoyant instances include: You have a vivid dream which later comes true. You lose your keys or wallet. Then, a picture of the place where you left the item flashes into your mind. As you’re driving, you see a mental image of the car ahead of you turning left. Two minutes later, the car turns left exactly as you’d mentally imaged. You suddenly see an image of a person in your mind’s eye. Later that day, you receive a call or a letter from that person. These experiences of clairvoyance are quite normal and often very useful. Even more, you can learn how to increase your clairvoyant power so that it becomes a reliable tool for everyday living. We enhance and improve clairvoyance, like any behavior, with learning and practice. If you follow the seven steps listed below and practice them for seven days in a row, you’ll experience more consistent and reliable clairvoyant images.
Keys to Clairvoyance
STEP 1: Release the Fears of Seeing the Future. My psychic development students usually recall being clairvoyant when they were children. In fact, studies show that young people have the highest rates of clairvoyance of any age group. However, children often “turn off” their clairvoyance because of fear. This fear could come from a thoughtless remark by adults who say the child’s invisible friend is his imagination (when, in truth, the child is seeing angels and spirit guides). Sometimes, parents tell their children that psychic insights are evil. Or, the child may see a frightening image of her parent’s impending divorce, or some other painful future event. She then shuts her clairvoyant vision, because she doesn’t want to see her future.Whatever the source of fear, we must release this emotion to regain our full clairvoyant power. One of the best ways to rid yourself of fear-blocks is through saying an affirmative phrase. Sit in a comfortable position and take two or three very deep and slow breaths. As you breathe in and out, say these words either silently or aloud: “I am willing to release all fear of seeing my future.”
STEP 2: Formulate Your Question in a Specific Way.Accurate clairvoyant answers require accurately-stated questions.Carefully word your questions so you’ll receive an answer that truly meets your needs. The best way is to be honest with yourself about your “bottom line” true desires. For example, you might ask, “Will I meet someone at the dance tonight?” and then see a clairvoyant image of yourself talking with a new person who isn’t your romantic type. A better question would be, “Will I meet my next romantic partner at the dance tonight?” Your question can have as many details as you like.
STEP 3: Breathe and Concentrate Upon Your “Third Eye”. After asking your question, take three deep and slow breaths. Put your focus on the area between your two eyes. This is an energy center, known as a “chakra,” which activates clairvoyance. This chakra area contains a “third eye,” which supplies psychic pictures in answer to your questions. As you breathe, look for and notice an oval shape resting horizontally between your two eyes. Notice whether this “third eye” has its eyelid closed, open, or partially open. If the eyelid is closed or partially closed, ask it to open. Reaffirm your willingness to release the fear of seeing psychically. Once the eye is open, you will be rewarded with a blissful feeling of warm love, as you are reunited with a long-lost part of yourself.
STEP 4: Notice any Pictures that Enter Your Mind. Clairvoyant images generally come in one of four ways: as a single picture inside your mind’s eye; as a single picture that you see outside your mind’s eye; as a movie image inside your head; or a movie image outside your head. The pictures can be black and white or full color. Sometimes, they may appear as a painting or a cartoon.
STEP 5: Increase the Brightness and Size of the Images.Simply think this phrase, “Pictures, I ask that you grow in size and strength, NOW!” With your powerful intention and decision, the clairvoyant pictures will instantly become larger, brighter, and bolder. Bigger and more colorful pictures are easier to interpret. If this step seems to give you trouble, repeat Step 1 above.
STEP 6: Ask For Interpretation and Clarification. You need to know the meaning of your clairvoyant images in order to interpret them and put them to good use. If you are unsure of what your psychic pictures are trying to tell you, ask either mentally or aloud, “What do these pictures mean?” You will receive an answer as a feeling, thought, or sound. If the answer is unclear, ask that it be repeated or delivered to you in a different way. The spirit world wants to help you receive psychic information, and they will work with you until you clearly understand the answers to your questions.
STEP 7: Trust in What You See.This last step is crucial, because if you discount your clairvoyant images or write them off as mere imagination, they are lost opportunities. You’ll gain more confidence in your psychic abilities if you keep a record of your clairvoyant images. Be sure to keep track of each psychic image that comes true. In this way, you’ll learn how reliable your clairvoyance truly is. You’ll also understand your personal symbology, as each person’s clairvoyant psyche uses a unique set of pictures to symbolize different meanings.

Magick & Responsibilty
Personal gain is not a factor, when it is done AT NO ONE ELSE’S Expense. What you can create through your own imagination & effort, is perfectly fine. If your personal gain just happens to enrich other people at the same time, that’s even better. Two things to keep in mind are Intent, and the method of Manefestation. There are always consequences in action. That’s Cause & Effect. Karma is neither a Reward, nor a Punishment. It is merely the results of action, and has no more emotional import than a cue ball feels when you do a bank shot to sink the eight ball.
The trick is to figure out what the results most likely will be in advance… not just personally, but universally. That’s a skill which can be developed through careful observation. We gravitate conditions to us in the Material World, that match what is going on inside us. That’s why the Ancients taught this lesson : Know Thyself! The better you know yourself, the more understanding you will have about the true nature of your own appetites & desires. Rid yourself of that which is unworthy within yourself, and circumstances in the Material World, will alter themselves accordingly.
Considering the barbaric past of the human species, can there be any question as to why circumstances on this planet are, shall we say, less than harmonious? Now of course, since we are all co-creators of the conditions that prevail on Earth, none of us is entirely responsible for what is going on in the world, AND none of us is entirely innocent either. We have to take responsibility for that, before we can move on.
